About The Old Albatross:

This site is not intended to be about myself but rather about the love of the mountains, waterfalls, interesting and beautiful places this world has to offer. I hopefully can inspire others to go out and visit these places by providing not only photographs and stories but also detailed logistical information on just how to get there and what is needed to do it safely and what to expect when you get there.

I also want to help educate others on how to protect these areas so that others may enjoy them for years to come.

I hope to also be able to take some of you along with us on our future trips if possible, depending on the response and number of people in the group per trip.

There are so many waterfalls and awesome places in the mountains of East Tennessee/North Carolina/Virginia (and beyond) that not many people know about that I hope to be able to share with others, but at the same time hopefully not cause such an impact as to promote any damages to these special places by emphasizing the importance of treading lightly and leaving no trace during your visits so as not to destroy these amazing areas by 'loving them to death' which happens so many times when wilderness areas become so popular. Of course many are not easy to get to and some are even off trail and very hard to negotiate where others are easily accessible and could become vulnerable for negative impact.

When I say 'we', it does not mean that I have an Albatross bird in my pocket, but rather it refers to my crew and myself. I have been fortunate enough to meet some really great people in my travels who share my love for waterfalls, mountains, and special places, and they let me tag along from time to time on their adventures and explorations to these and new places and I wish to include them here on this website. Become a crew member by hiking with me.

Being retired, I have plenty of time to get out and find new places to see which I find is a great thing to do for folks my age. It is also some very good exercise which I feel is very important for all ages but especially for us older folks to stay in shape. Not to mention, it is a lot of fun ! So what are you waiting for ? There is no time like the present to get up off the couch and out of that rocker, pack a daypack with the proper essentials, and head out to the trail somewhere. Feel free to contact us anytime for any information you need or any questions you may have as we will be more than happy to assist.

Happy Trails To You !
