This site is dedicated to waterfalls, mountains, an old aviators memories, with lots of poetic liberties, some just plain made up, and interesting places to visit.

Lower Little Lost Cove Falls2021 viewsN 36.02166 W 081.82910

I saw a description of this falls that nearly discouraged me from going here. Glad I did not listen.

This is a very high waterfall that, even in low water, is spectacular.

At the upper falls, use the trail and don't take a short cut down the Butt Slide like we did, an you will have no trouble down and back. It is quiet strenuous though.

Tony1944 viewsTony is not only a crew member but, Family. Married my Granddaughter! Other than that, HE IS OK. A great athlete; rides bikes, and a needed member.

Our firsts hike together but, one waterfall is never enough. This is atop Steel Creek Falls, NC

Why I hike waterfalls2156 viewsThis pothole is the reason I came to Steele Creek, and why I hike waterfalls. They are all different but, this one is downright strange and I will return for further exploring.00000

I did come back!2182 viewsI don't like top down photos but, this one shows my destination, the rock where the water disappears.

My first visit was a flop. This time, with a little more experience
(how much more experience does a 74 yr old goat need) I made it to the top.

Broken Heart2111 viewsMaybe this falls should be renamed "Broken Heart". The pothole forms the shape of a heart, broken by the creek entering and leaving it.00000

Water Cave2070 viewsSteele Creek goes under this big rock, forming a foam whirlpool.

Views from this vantage point are the reason I give Steel reek Falls a *** rating. Note the rope on the rock. This is a very slick area so use the rope to hold on.

This little area can definitely clean your family gene pool.

Bottom Of Bowl2036 viewsThe bottom of South Harpers Creek Falls takes on the appearance of a giant stone bowl with one side torn out by nature.

Due to the steep descent to this area I rated it a *** (3) in difficulty. Not a place to go in wet weather.

Top falls at South Harpers Creek2005 viewsDue to brilliant Sun these photos were difficult, even using filters.

I plan a return trip with better skies.

ViewFrom Bottom1974 viewsFrom the bottom of lower falls. Falls comes in from top right of photo and does a sharp left turn to escape down the gorge.

Note the "cave" in center of photo.

From this point to top of rock wall measures 270 ft.

Northern Rough Winged Swallow2259 viewsDue to the easy access of the nest I will not disclose it's location.

I believe this to be as identified but, if you know it to be another bird please, let me know.

Gangway!2231 viewsAfter being flushed by crew members RAT and Bol'dar, old Sneaky here, took an uncontrolled slide down to the bottom of Chestnut Falls, where I was, unfortunately, located.

After a short dance session both Oldalbatross and snake were fine.
